Rondo “did not learn any lessons” during suspension
One of the first lessons parents learn when disciplining their children is that the punishment must fit the crime. Whether or not my parents listened to this advice is unclear, as when I did not do homework during grade school, I was not allowed to watch television. There was some correlation between the crime and the punishment, but it was tangential at best.
Either way, it is hard for people to make the connection between the wrong they committed if the consequential punishment does is too far removed. Before I get too psychological on you, Rondo is no exception to this rule. The two game suspension seemed to have no effect on Rondo, as the negative reinforcement passed on from commish Stern did not seem to phase the young point guard.
In fact, there are rumors that Rondo took his time off from basketball to go on a little vacation:
No wonder David Stern’s scolding did not have an effect. Cue imagery of David Stern pointing a menacing finger at Rondo telling him he just earned himself a five-day get-away to Mexico. A Rondo suspension is best served with a piña colada and some clear-water snorkeling.
