Doc Rivers, a candidate to coach next Team USA: ‘I really think it should be (Gregg) Popovich’

There’s class, and then there’s Doc Rivers.

Rivers has been considered a candidate to replace Mike Krzyzewski on the Team USA sideline, and Rivers has said he would be honored to be named Coach K’s successor. However, he doesn’t think he’s the best man for the job. (Boston Herald)

“There’s no doubt,” said Rivers of his peer. “There’s just no doubt. To me, there should be no doubt at all.

“It shouldn’t be me. It really shouldn’t be. It should be Pop. Forget me. Take me out of the equation. I really think it should be (Gregg) Popovich.”

“He’s done it,” he said. “He’s won four titles. He’s done everything. He’s a winner, and he knows how to coach great players. He should be it.”

There is also the fact that Popovich, who spent five years in the Air Force, has paid dues by twice being an assistant coach for the national team.

“He’s served more than his time,” said Rivers. “He’s served his country. He’s done everything that should be required, and he should be it. He deserves it.”

It’s incredibly hard not to like Doc Rivers, no?

The record right now doesen’t help Doc, but he’s an amazing coach that’s for sure, second after Pop right now, number one in the east.

Team USA? This guy can’t get his team to rebound let alone coach USA. And that comment he made at the beginning of the season was absolute garbage. ”We have to keep up with Miami”, shouldn’t that be ”We have to STOP LeBron and Co”? The aforementioned was Doc’s mentality and now this team is paying for it. Sure, we would like Doc if he could get this team to win on a consistent basis until then we can always ”play catch up to Miami”.

Doc is a mediocre coach at best that has been blessed with great talent. His teams these last 3 years have consistently underachieved. On tuesday we’ll be .500 when we should be at least 17-5. He is so milquetoast in handling players as all he wants is to be their buddies or friends. As I have said many times, we should have kept Thibodeau who is a far better coach than Doc. we have 3 HOFs currently and had 4 last yr and we consistently lose to teams under .500 and show up as if we don’t have to play hard. Ever see Doc bench anyone? Ever see him really get in the face of any player? We need a coach that gets after it and is willing to change, experiment and rule with a hammer. Doc rules with a feather. Fire him is my solution. And as coach of the USA? NEVER, ever. Go Cs…how low will Doc let us sink???

Doc is obviously saying he is not deserving of being the coach of Team USA. Still you idiots bash him and say we should fire him. Lol you guys are dumb as hell if he goes KG and Pierce will retire after this year. There’s a reason why danny is the gm and not the blind fans who are full of themselves.

I’ve been watching Celtics games since 1960 and Doc is absolutely a mediocre coach. How can a team with 3 HOFs be one game above .500? Something is wrong and it starts with the lame coaching. Ever see him bench anyone? Ever see him yell at PP for taking ill-advised fall-away jumpers at the most inopportune time? Come on, you are the one with your head in the sand. His rotations suck, he can’t get his team to rebound or play defense (how many lay-ups have we given up in the last 5 games? 50? 100?) and he plays favorites and will never experiment, unless there’s an injury to force him to (AB for Judas last year). KG and PP are here for the next couple of years but maybe it’s time to think about cracking the f’in whip on the players so we are not a .500 team. Oh, that’s right, Doc won’t do that. Go Cs…fire Doc!!!!!!

He´s had chance after chance to get this team running smoothly and disappoints every time and to top that of shows an arrogance toward any other ideas but his own. FIRE DOC RIVERS.
