Rondo: “Bradley is going to be the key to why we win the championship”

Over at the Boston Herald, Mark Murphy has an excellent feature on Rajon Rondo and the impact he believes Avery Bradley will have in his return to the Celtics.
From the Herald:
“A couple of guys last year had things to say,” [Rondo] said. “It’s kind of funny. (Bradley) would finally get out of the game, and I would come in, and they would almost seem relieved — I don’t know if that was an insult to me, or just a credit to the defensive player that he is.”
Perhaps Rondo’s good humor is stoked by one absolute belief concerning Bradley.
“We’re going to be a completely different team, just with one player coming back,” said Rondo, whose frustration and desire for a change in the Celtics’ 13-13 start couldn’t be more feverish.
And then there’s this corollary to the last comment: “I think (Bradley is) the X Factor. He’s going to be the key to why we win the championship. He brings a lot to the team in terms of intangibles, the way he cuts offensively. His pressure defensively is going to raise everyone else’s pressure. His defense is going to make us a lot better.”
Rondo is an incredibly confident player, sometimes in the face of all logic. He has, for example, taken nearly twice as many 3-pointers per 36 minutes this season while averaging nearly the exact same percentage as last season. He has somewhat brashly called the Celtics the best team in the league before. And here, he says that the Celtics WILL win the championship, and it will be because of Avery Bradley.
Celtics fans are, of course, looking for something, anything, that we can hang our “We are still contenders” hats on, and those of us who aren’t advocating for a trade are draped all over the “Wait until Bradley comes back” hat-rack. There was such a notable improvement last year when Bradley returned (and when Kevin Garnett moved to center) that we can’t help but believe that the C’s might be able to turn themselves around upon his return. Rondo seems to share that belief.
It’s also worth noting that although Rondo is confident, he rarely raves about other players the way he does about Bradley here. Rondo is funny and candid, but also extremely complimentary talking about both Bradley’s defensive intensity (and the way it will affect his teammates) and his ability to cut to the basket, an asset Rondo is undoubtedly anticipating impatiently. One can only set up so many jumpers for teammates before one wishes for surer assists, you know.
We will have much more on the impending return of Avery Bradley, but just know that Rajon Rondo couldn’t be more excited.

AB is going to make a huge difference he is going to make us better on both ends of the floor I truly believe this but for this team to win a title I feel we are one big man away Demarcus Cousins would fit perfectly on this team but if it involves trading AB forget it,you do not find 2 many lockdown 2 guards who can also drop 10-11 points per game. But I would love to get Demarcus Cousins I would trade JS to get him he would turn us in to instant title contender and favorites GO CELTICCCSSSS

I’m absolutely nauseated by this. I know Bradley is important for us, Rondo. But what is more important is that you stop making excuses and lead this team on both ends of the court. I don’t want to hear about Bradley, pal. I want to see you play like a champion. Like Walton said, if you want to be a champion, PLAY LIKE ONE.

I absolutely agree there not playing well one guy cannot make us a champion but Rondo can only do so much alot of the players around him are not performing around him on a consistent basis.Rondo most def needs to step up on the defensive ends he is getting beat of the dribble, but on offense thru the first 24 games has been the best player on the team

Rondo when he wants to be is the best defensive guard on the team. He locked DOWN brandon jennings against the bucks. Rondo’s problem is that he will either go off on offense and go ok on defense, or hell go off on defense and be solid on offense. hes gotta do both if he wants serious consideration for MVP

while i agree, rondo has been playing at a superstar level. its hard to expect him to run our offense, grab rebounds and play lockdown defense 40 minutes a night. he hustles a lot, remember that philly game earlier this season when he nearly put up a triple double in the first quarter? we can’t expect him to do everything, he gets tired just like any other human being. if he gets worn out during the regular season then we are doomed in the playoffs. there is never an excuse for not playing hard but i think avery will spark this team and allow rondo to expend his full energy on running the offense and picking off passes for steals

They’re contenders when they’re winning. Building winning streaks or playing with energy on a nightly basis is contention. Right now they’re mediocre and Bradley will not be the savior. Rondo needs to stop yapping and play with better effort.
The bench is inconsistent. Personally,I don’t the pieces mesh well. The bench isn’t defensive minded which is one of many reasons why they’re struggling.

While RR’s statement is likely true, the fact is the whole team has underachieved to this point and needs to get their collective s**t together before the piss away the season. Go Cs…

Bradley isn’t the key to winning a championship, team effort is the key, one player isn’t gonna get get you a title, you could have Jordan or Chamberlain in your roster but if the rest of the team don’t do their job (rebound, defense, etc) you’re not winning anything.

I definitely like what Rondo said about Bradley. I believe he’s the best on the ball defender in the league. He throws so many experienced vets off their game they act like he’s doing something illegal. His defense and energy will definitely push us further than we are without him.
