The Boston Celtics are signing forward Jarvis Varnado of Sioux Falls in the D-League, league source tells Y! Sports.

Despite Fab Melo’s ridiculous 15/16/14 triple-double this weekend, the Boston Celtics decided to sign Jarvis Varnado, a 6-foot-9 shot blocker who became the NCAA’s top career shot blocker while atĀ MississippiĀ State. Varnado, 24, is averaging 3.9 blocks per game in the D-League this season, which probably means the Celtics are admitting, “Yeah, son dude, our interior defense sucks.”

Varnado isn’t a polished center by any means, but he should help Boston’s interior defense, which certainly could use some assistance.

A raw, undersized, bench warming power forward. Just what the Cs needed. Now I can safely say banner #18 is just around the corner.

Agreed, this team already have 2 players of similar size in BB and JS. This team needs height that can actually play some decent minutes and take pressure of KG.

…but if this guy turns out to be a superstar, I retract that last statement. GO CELTICS…

Another 6’9″ guy when we need a 7-footer, like Melo. While Fab may be raw I can’t imagine getting to play with the team now, since we’re .500, would be a bad thing. He would gain experience, clog the middle, and he can rebound. He also doesn’t need any plays run for him so any scoring would be a bonus. But God for bid the Cs ever play a rookie. Hope the new guy can at least score too since he’s 24 and hopefully he will not be taking minutes from JS. Go Cs…
