Kevin Garnett: “He just jacked my shorts”

In the Celtics early start on Christmas Day, CSN viewers were surrounded with holiday spirit, including anecdotal stories of KG buying Scal a Louis Vuitton suitcase, and Keyon Dooling dishing out holiday cheer like it he was playing point guard again. Then things became reminiscent of the last meeting between Brooklyn and Boston when Gerald Wallace and Kevin Garnett got a little feisty when Wallace was went up for a lay-up after an offensive rebound (via CSNNE):
“He just grabbed my shorts. I tried to help him up, make sure he didn’t fall,” Garnett said in describing his role on the play. “And he just kept grabbing my shorts. So I asked him what he was doing. He didn’t respond. And I looked at him, what you doing? And I tried to smack his hand away. It really wasn’t nothing. He just jacked my shorts.”
This one, on replay, looked bad for Wallace. He was standing straight up, and continued to latch on to KG’s shorts for dear life. Perhaps it was an attempt to keep his Brooklyn Nets from their recent downswing, as Wallace seemed to be the only Net with a pulse in the waning minutes of the Christmas Day showdown. Perhaps an attempt to spark his team, or maybe a forum to showcase his own personal abilities in the blowout– as Scalabrine suggested.
The referees did the usual double-technical, as a way of scolding both players for bad behavior. It will be interesting to see if David Stern takes a second look at this one, as Garnett seemed to have a reasonable response to Wallace’s actions.

Wallace was trying to punk KG. It’s good to see that attitudes have changed, thanks to Rondo and Doc. KG wasn’t having it, and Sully seconded his point. Soft no more.
We hope…
