Boston Celtics 86, New York Knicks 89: Boston plays harder but still lets one slip away

It is unclear as to the angle I wanted to take with this post game recap. It is another loss in the string of five straight, but they tried, so I want to give the Celtics some credit. Boston played well for stretches, and horrible for stretches. I still do not know what to make of this team, and it appears that sentiment is shared by the coaching staff, management, and players. They showed us why we should retain some hope, with stingy defense and working for open shots, but it was so often followed with bad switching and over-passing. But I digress:
- Rondo had another triple double. Ho-hum. He also scored the Celtic’s last eight points, but had some questionable roaming defense in the last minutes and gave J.R. Smith a dagger three pointer with about a minute to go. He was far from at fault for this loss, so the over help can be forgived.
- Pierce played well, as he may have taken the talk that was all over twitter and combined it with being snubbed (was he really snubbed?) from the all-star game and used it as motivation.
- The Celtics passed themselves to death. I was yelling “shoot the ball!” more often than usual, sorry to the neighbors.
- Boston missed a lot of open shots. Got pretty good looks for most of the night, but still shot 31 for 76 from the field, or just under 41%. Would like to see more shots at the rim, but the shots simply weren’t falling tonight.
- There was a moment with around six minutes left in final quarter when Rondo took the rebound, forced the issue and dished it to Avery Bradley for the open lay-up. A collective ‘why couldn’t we do this more often’ murmur was heard from the Celtic faithful.
- Jeff Green was favored down the stretch over Brandon Bass, a move I support. I understand the logic of starting the same starting five that made a deep run in the playoffs last year, but change needed to happen for Boston as their recent play warrants it.
- A lot of bad passes and really bad turnovers. Including two really bad ones down the stretch, the first on a Terry to Pierce hand-off, and the second, down three, Pierce took his eye off the ball and it slipped out of bounce.
- Anthony helped Garnett off the floor, we can move now, yeah?
The losing streak is extended to five games, as the Celtics look to rebound against the Hawks tomorrow night in Atlanta. The expectation bar will be at an all time low, Celtics hopefully can limbo below it and pull out a win.

Put this loss on PP. 4 pts, 15 pts, 1 pt, 2 pts were his 4 qtrs and he was a whopping 0-3 in the second half. Then he leaves JR Smith wide open for his only 3 of the night and then he commits 2 TOs on the last two possessions. Not very ‘captain-y’ ball PP. JG’s pass to Kidd was sweet and the Jet is now a prop-plane at best. Should have won this one. Go Cs…

The team played well, Rondo played brilliant. Not a perfect game, by any means, but if they could keep this up, we could turn the season around.

awful game. PP should spend less time on twitter and more in a retirement home, along with KG (who at least has been terrific on D and on the boards). The number of free throw they’re missing tells a lot about their physical condition. Rondo was great on offense in the 4th, actually seemed the only Celtic with enough gut to shoot the ball, but thru the game he gambled too much, both on offense and on defense. A little more, Rajon, try to stay focused for the entire game! Bass is inexcusable, he’s clearly shaken by Sully’s progress and in turn this is affecting his confidence in his game. Usually, he’s limited. Right now he’s not ineffective, he’s detrimental. Barbosa played without a clue, Jet could be done. I’m at the verge of tears (metaphorically) so I’d rather stop it here. I really don’t understand how this game could be considered a step in the right direction. It is true that this team seems to adapt to its opponents, playing with greater intensity against stronger foes, but at the same time it has the rare gift to lose games, regardless of who they’re playing against

I was so upset until I read this article http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/01/celtics-have-increasing-interest-in-jj-redick.htm

The reason I am saying this I hear the rumbles already but I am sorry we gotta do something Reddick is a shooter going back to Duke and will shoot the long ball better than Lee/Terry but the thing I enjoyed is we are looking for a big I was praying to get Reddick and Vucevic for Bass and Terry the 2 guys who are not pulling there weight everygame bass should be making his shot and playing tough terry should be averaging more than 9 points per game and these are the 2 games more than anyone I feel need to go sorry but it is not JG fault he got a big contract.I know everyone says Perkins had to go but heres some food for though JG big contract and inconsistent play our letting Perkins just walk and signing MP to a similar contract Judas signed in Miami

I don’t think Redick would help. I mean, I love the guy: he’s gritty, humble, tenacious, dependable. A great role player. Always been a thon in Celitc’s side, over the years. But Redkick’s kind of players work best when other players, the supposed “superstars”, create space for them. Redick can’t create his own shot, it takes another player to command a double team to free him up. Now, can you tell me which Celts could be such a threat to command a double team?
Of course, another option would be to have a great coach that draws great plays, that in turn players execute brilliantly, eventually leaving Redick with the open corner 3. Is Doc this kind of coach? ate the Cs this kind of team?
with this analysis I’m depressing myself, I’m gonna take the weekend off (so to spare you my rants after the hawks and heat games) because I know you guys are sick and tired of my gloomy conjectures about this season…

Nothing gloomy is just the truth I know JJ would not get his own shot but Terry just looks done old tired and lost a step and my analysis is lets trade Terry for Reddick at this point what are we gonna lose right. Now I would like to add Vucevic he averages 11 boards and will really help us on the glass I just want a 6th seed so we have some kind of shot in the postseason but it is so bad right now I cant even watch the games it is really depressing to be a Celtics fan Go C’s
