Trade Rumors 2013: Boston Celtics reportedly interested in J.J. Redick

The Celtics, according to Marc Stein of ESPN, are interested in persuing J.J. Redick who currently plays for the Orlando Magic.

Hearing Celts, even before season-worst 7-for-32 shooting from 15+ feet in NYK loss, have ramped up their interest in Magic's J.J. Redick

Size obviously Celts' priority if they do deal before Feb. 21 trade deadline but word is they hope to work way into Redick mix if they can

Reasons this makes sense:

  • Boston has been longing for the floor spacing Allen provided since he left for Miami (I just went out there and said his name, I think it is time to start the healing process).
  • He is under a reasonable salary and has been playing well.

Reasons this doesn’t make sense:

  • He is one of the only good things the Magic have going for them, why would they trade him when they are trying to rebuild?
  • The Celtics already have shoot guards, their real need is in the front court.

J.J. Redick is averaging a career high in points per game (14.9) and assists per game (4.4) and could be a huge addition to the Celtics.  That being said, the Magic know that and it might be difficult to pry him loose.

Here was my first attempt using the 3-team implications Stein alluded to, but speaking frankly I don’t know if the Magic or Nuggets say yes to that.  Happy trade machining.

If Reddick plays like he has thus far in Orlando, he will be a great addition for Boston; however I do not see him as a major game changer. he’s not going to explode like he once did at Duke, that’s for sure.

watching the celtics shooting yesterday, I think they realized that they need a consistent 3 pt shooter, which nobody in the team is right now. Redick could help us space the floor and he’s athletic. I would definetely try and get him.

They don;t need another guard. They need to add to guard/perimeter play by subtracting. Namely, Terry. Dump him and play Lee and Barbosa to spell Rondo & Bradley. Terry just confuses things and does not fit. Neither does Bass since Sully has emerged as a legitimate NBA player.

We need a big guy and we got one. Fab Melo. How could he possibly be worse than Collins or Wilcox? And he has serious upside potential.

Pierce needs to become full time 6th man after Terry departs. Start Rondo, Bradley, Sully, KG, and Green. Bring in Melo and Pierce up front and Lee & Barbosa in backcourt.

Celtics need redick because they need to get younger and faster players the big men are fine if redick comes to boston this is how I see it he starting line for next year. Fab melo at center, Jared sullinger at power forward, jj redick at small forward, Avery bradly at shooting guard, and finally rajon rondo at point guard. Now this team could win championships

I said redick at small forward because I don’t think peirce is going to be in the NBA much longer and fab melo because Garnett is most likely to retire after this year
