Boston Celtics trade for Jordan Crawford, give back Leandro Barbosa and Jason Collins to Washington Wizards

Well, we knew a backcourt of just Jason Terry, Courtney Lee, and Avery Bradley would not last the rest of the season, and sure enough, per Chris Forsberg at ESPN — the Celtics swapped the injured Leandro Barbosa and Jason Collins for Jordan Crawford.
Yes, he is another combo guard with little ball handing skills. Yes the Celtics need a shooting guard with size or a point guard who can handle, and Crawford is neither. Yes he looks funny when he dribbles the ball up the court.
He is a guard, and he can score, and Boston picked him up for Barbosa who was out for the rest of the season on a one-year deal, and Jason Collins who scored 8 buckets this year. I can only complain so much, ya know?
That being said, losing Collins will hurt as the big man rotation is now KG, Bass, Wilcox… and Fab? PJ Brown still around? I would be surprised if the Celtics don’t search the free agent market for another big body who can deliver 6 fouls. There are other Collins brothers right? (too soon?)
Unexpected bonus– Crawford was the player responsible for dunking on Lebron James, at Lebron’s skills academy, which prompted Mr. James to throw a hissy-fit trying to confiscate the video footage. A stretch, but I will take any mental advantage against last year’s MVP and NBA champion (see: Delonte West).

Good trade and thank God JC is gone. Give his minutes to FAB so he can gain experience with the team for next season when we’ll be in a title run again. Go Cs…

I think the trade is in part Ainge’s way of forcing Rivers to play Fab more.

I sure hope so, as he’ll get better learning from KG and playing with the team than playing in the D-league. We’ll find out tonight. Go Cs…

I think this is a great trade, an improvement over barbosa, though I love barbosa. But we get a young talent, capable of scoring, athletic and healthy who can put up big numbers. The only concern for me is, if he will see enough playing time. He’s averaging 13 PPG, that’s a lot over barbosa 5 ppp… but again… please Doc, let the kid play.

It will be tough for JC to find minutes as Doc has Jason Terry, Avery Bradley and Courtney Lee ahead of him on the depth chart.

At first looks like a great trade, but now JC too. We are so small we have to look up to look down…if we do not get a free agent big were done, toast, no team will fear us, why we ever let Perkins go, why?

Yeah I agree with you, the Perkins trade was the dumbest thing the Celtics ever did, and it seems that whenever they’re about to get a new big, they get smaller. I dunno what’s Danny Ainge thinking… K Mart is still out there if it helps.

Please get over the Perk trade, he is not even a good center if he can’t average 10 rebs a game, which has never done and his stats are down this year to 5 pts and 6 rebs. We got Green and if he ever rebounds like he should then that trade was brilliant. Go Cs…

it ain’t bad, since we gave back basically nothing, but he’s another player we don’t need (no ball handling, no 3pt range, no big man).
and K-Mart just signed a 10-days contract with the Knicks.

He’s got a 3 point range, look it as an improvement over barbosa, younger, athletic, can put up big numbers 12 20pt games this season. And Fab Melo is playing Collins time.

anyone who watched the Lakers bigs ( and without Pau) have their way with the Celts front court…how many times did Howard just stand there and wait for a rebound and a put back…we are kidding ourselves by thinking we can win with “small ball”…we need bigs and we get Williams and .Crawford … Thanks Danny. !

DA is re-tooling for next season. We are done for this year and everyone better understand that. There is no title run without RR. Now FAB gets an opportunity to gain experience and the off-season and FA period will get us the other pieces we need. Go Cs…

Fab gets major minutes – this, or I want Doc’s head, served with garlic and smashed potatoes.
But I don’t think big men will come cheap in the offseason, and the Cs have no cap space to sign any free agent. So, if any trade had to be done this year, it should had brought back size, not combo guards.

I agree re FAB, but am happy for the trade as I hated JC and his unproductive waste of time…no matter how much Doc thought he was some amazing asset. Go Cs…

This is a good trade for the Celtics. Jordan Crawford is a solid young player that can put up points in a hurry and will certainly be an excellent building block for the Celtics’ future. The Celtics get a potential scoring machine to pair alongside Rajon Rondo, once he returns. Add Courtney Lee, Jared Sullinger, and Jeff Green, the Celtics have a solid young core to build on for the future.
It will be hard for Jordan to find minutes as the backcourt is rather crowded; however, he can use this time, or lack thereof, to learn under the masters such as Paul Pierce and Jason Terry. And what’s even better is that the Celtics did not give up much to get him.
All the Celts had to give up was a gimpy Leandro Barbosa who many agree is washed up and a never-was in Jason Collins. Collins departure will certainly mean more minutes for Chris Wilcox and will give some trickle down minutes to Fab Melo as well.
The only disappointing things is that the Celtics were not able to unload Brandon Bass. Bass has been a complete disappointment and has provided little if anything for the Celtics. At least with acquiring Jordan Crawford, the Celtics have a future sharpshooter to develop.
