Because I assume you, like me, are sick of hearing about Doc Rivers and Terrence Williams so far this offseason, here is some good news: Jared Sullinger is apparently doing well and is planning to return for training camp.
Sullinger was a key piece to Boston’s offense during the regular season before his surgery, and his rebounding and energy would have been invaluable in the playoffs. Still, as a rookie, he made the right decision to fix his body while he still could. Injuries linger, and it’s great to see Sullinger demonstrating the kind of foresight that could prolong his career.
Sully’s return will hopefully coincide with Rondo’s, and it may be entertaining to see how their chemistry will develop with more emphasis next year. Sullinger has a big body, and last season, he showed flashes (flashes, mind you…there were rookie moments as well) of excellent footwork and fundamentals as a roll man. But more and more through the years, Rondo has relied on Garnett for pick-and-pops, and Sully can contribute mid-range jumpers as well.
Whether or not the Celtics are still a playoff team next season, it will great to see Sullinger back on the court, hopefully without any red flags waving over his back.
