According to the Boston Globe, Celtics assistant coach Mike Longabardi is headed to the Phoenix Suns:
Celtics assistant Mike Longabardi, who was Doc Rivers’ “defensive coordinator” in Boston, has accepted an offer to become an assistant for Phoenix Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek, a league source told the Globe.
Like the rest of Doc Rivers’ assistant coaching staff (sans Jay Larranaga), Longabardi’s contract was set to expire at the end of this month. With no clear resolution in sight to the ongoing Docudrama (my preferred nomenclature for this fiasco) I can’t say I blame Longabardi for jumping ship when the opportunity presented itself. He will be reunited with former Celtics assistant manager Ryan McDonough in Phoenix.
If Doc does return (and who knows what will happen! I’m so fed up with this debacle I’m not even linking to any posts about it! Thats how tired I am of talking about it!), he will be without his “defensive coordinator” from the past two seasons. Former Celtic assistant coach Lawrence Frank could conceivably return to occupy that spot after spending the last two seasons coaching the Detroit Pistons.
