At this point, we might as well just make Celtics Town into a Tumblr and rename it “Adrian Wojnarowski’s Twitter Feed.” Here’s Woj, once again (again):
Clippers called Celtics today, offered a future 1st round pick for rights to coach Doc Rivers and sides near agreement
Still contract details needing to be worked out w/ Rivers and Clips, sources say. Also, “Clips need not to change their minds,” source says.
Woj’s source sounds like the rest of us: Annoyed and just ready for this whole thing to be over with. But if his source is correct, and Doc is still willing to coach for a team that has seemingly waffled over his hiring more than an IHOP, the Clips offering a first-rounder might be the closest both sides have come to closing this thing.
Four days before the draft, I’d go ahead and say it’s about damn time.
Something important to consider: How far in the future are we looking? Sources are all over the place on this. Some are reporting that the Clippers are offering the 25th pick next week. Others are reporting that Boston might get an offer for the 2015 draft. Still others (Gary Washburn, for one) say the pick might be for the 2014 draft.
Now, obviously, the 2014 draft is rumored to be deeper and better than this year’s, which makes the 2014 pick ideal. It’s also possible, however unlikely, that the C’s would be interested in this year’s 25th pick, given that Lucas Nogueira — who Trey wrote about earlier today — might be available within that range, according to Draft Express.
Either way, sources on each side are saying that a deal is likely to come soon. We will have much more as the story progresses. Whether or not more stories on this are a good thing, I leave to your judgment.
