Red Claws Find A Win On Elvis Night

Last night was Elvis Night at the Portland Expo. Yesterday would have been Elvis’s 75th birthday, and he was scheduled to perform in Maine a few days after his death. So, the Red Claws last night hosted Elvis (or at least, an impersonator) at the halftime of their 95-91 victory over Springfield.

The D-League: Where Showcases Happen

Every year, each NBA D-League teams travels to one location for the D-League Showcase. Each team plays twice while there in a carnival-style format. While the Showcase was originally intended as a chance for NBA scouts to see all the D-League teams and players in one place, it’s become a heavily-marketed fan-oriented event, as well. 16 D-League games will be played in four days in Boise, Idaho.

Red Claws Lead Almost Evaporates

In the first half of the Maine-Erie matchup last night, it looked like the Red Claws were rolling to another big win. This wasn’t exactly surprising – Maine has defeated Erie three times this season, and that trend continued as they won 94-86. Maine came out of the gate with a lot of energy, rolling to a 17-point lead at halftime. Was another blowout in the offing? All they had to do was keep their energy at similar levels in the second half and they’d be fine. They were headed to another win, to be sure.

Red Claws Ice Energy

Much like your Boston Celtics, the Maine Red Claws faced a top-notch team yesterday after recently some of their best players. The two NBAers assigned to the team from Boston, Bill Walker and Lester Hudson, were brought back due to injuries in the parent club. After losing to lowly Bakersfield on Sunday night, there was every reason to have concern about the big game against Iowa Thursday afternoon. Would the Claws come out and disappoint another sellout crowd in the Portland Expo?

Red Claws Jam Bakersfield

The Maine Red Claws, as expected, destroyed the league’s worst team tonight in front of another sellout crowd in the Portland Expo. Despite Bill Walker being sent back up to the Celtics, Alexis Ajinca not at his best, and Lester Hudson only arriving for the second half, it was no contest. At various times the Jam tried to turn it into a contest. While it looked like they might get it going and make it a game, their rally never quite materialized. After the first quarter it was never closer than nine points.

Maine vs. Bakersfield Preview

Maine Red Claws (7-2) vs. Bakersfield Jam (2-10)
1:00PM Saturday December 26;
5:00PM Sunday December 27, Portland Expo, Portland, Maine
This afternoon and tomorrow evening, the Red Claws square off against the Bakersfield Jam, the worst team in the D-League. Like the Armor, the Jam have the benefit of no NBA assignees. Like the Armor, they’re associated with thoroughly mediocre NBA teams: the 7-21 Golden State Warriors and the 12-17 LA’s Other Team. In fact, last spring the Jam almost ceased operations entirely.
