Chuck Hayes not looking at Boston Celtics, says agent

Five teams are still involved in free agency discussions with Chuck Hayes, his agent said on Thursday. The Boston Celtics are not one of those five teams. (Fox Houston)

Free agent forward Chuck Hayes has five teams expressing strong interest in him and his agent told FOX 26 Sports Hayes could be ready to make a decision by the weekend.

“The teams that are involved with Chuck Hayes are the Portland Trailblazers, the Toronto Raptors, the Houston Rockets, the Sacramento Kings and the Minnesota Timberwolves,” Calvin Andrews said.

Sayonara, Chuck. It would have been nice to know ya.

Michael Redd, Joel Przybilla on Boston Celtics radar, according to report

Add Michael Redd and Joel Pryzbilla — and their injury-plagued albeit productive-when-healthy games — to the growing list of free agents the Boston Celtics are interested in acquiring. (Milwaukee Journal Times)

The Bucks aren’t the only suitors for Przbyilla. Portland would also like to sign the 7-foot-1 center and it is believed the Boston Celtics, who are attempting to shore up their frontline, have interest in him. About six teams have more than a passing interest in Przybilla, although the Bucks appear to be the front-runners for his services. …

Michael Redd will be resuming his pro career this season but, for the first time since entering the NBA in 2000, it won’t be with the Bucks.

Redd, an unrestricted free agent, is a cinch to join another team when the signing period begins Dec. 9. Redd, who has had two major knee surgeries in recent years, is drawing keen interest from a slew of teams, including some NBA-title contenders.

According to some league officials, Chicago, Boston, New York and Miami all have Redd on their radar.

Other names that have been mentioned include Marquis Daniels, Aaron Gray and Roger Mason, in addition to the plethora of rumors Celtics Town has already covered.

Boston Celtics want Jeff Green back, says Danny Ainge

Danny Ainge said during a press conference Thursday that the Boston Celtics want to re-sign Jeff Green.

“We’d like to have Jeff [Green] back, yes,” Ainge said.

If you read the site, you know my feelings about Jeff Green are confused and often harsh, but based in fact. He has the potential to develop into something better, something versatile and effective and impressive, but his production has never lived up to his skill set, and his lack of efficiency on both ends has routinely hurt his teams. That’s not me being biased. That’s fact.

You also know I think the decision Boston will make on Jeff Green this offseason could help shape the team for years to come. Does he deserve long-term money, which he almost assuredly will receive from some team willing to take a risk on a young, athletic hybrid forward? How much can the Celtics afford to pay him? At what point is re-signing him no longer worth it? The Celtics, as Doc Rivers told Scott Souza yesterday, are balancing the present with the future. Deciding what to do with Green is a crucial part of that.

Just tread carefully, Danny. Please.

Boston Celtics will likely have mini mid-level exception, says Danny Ainge

Danny Ainge said during a press conference on Thursday that the Boston Celtics are likely to receive a mini mid-level exception, which is the smaller version of the exception afforded to tax-payers, rather than the full mid-level given to teams under the luxury tax.

Obviously, that wouldn’t be good news. The Celtics are already strapped for cash, already over the salary cap, and need to fill between four and seven roster spots during the free agency period. The difference between using a $5 million exception and a $3 million exception could be the difference between Shane Battier and Tracy McGrady, or between Carl Landry and Anthony Parker (yes, I understand they play entirely different positions).

The C’s have a difficult task this offseason, like they’ve had for the past three offseasons — they have to play a balancing act between now and the future, and improve a bench without any real salary cap space. Not having the full mid-level exception only makes that task more difficult.
