Doc Rivers has standing contract offer on table
According to Danny Ainge, the Boston Celtics have offered Doc Rivers a contract extension. Rivers, whose current deal expires following this season, doesn’t want to talk about his future. Not yet, at least. (Boston Herald)
“We’ve talked on a few occasions,” the Celtics president of basketball operations said. “The bottom line is that he’s not ready to think about his future. But there is a standing offer. I recently talked to his agent about it, and for now we just let it go at that.”
Last year, we freaked out upon hearing that Rivers ponders his future after every season. This year I’m taking it in stride. Rivers will take his time, weigh his options, and hopefully decide to accept the Celtics’ offer. And if he doesn’t accept the C’s offer? If he has his priorities screwed up, and believes that family is actually more important than the Boston Celtics? Then — and only then — will I worry.
For now, I’m assuming (right or wrong) that Rivers will coach at least until the Big Three all retire. Hopefully, my assumption won’t make an ass out of “U” and “Me”.
