Fan Blog: Disordered All-Stars: Does T-Mac Deserve to Be On The NBA All-Star Team?

Also seen at HardcourtMayhem.net

I can sympathize why Boston Celtics’ guard Ray Allen is a bit furious over the NBA All-Star Voting currently. There were players like Allen Iverson and Amare Stoudemire, in which many fans have said that they shouldn’t be worthy of accepting this accolade. But the athlete that beams mostly towards my mind is Houston Rockets’ star (well, at least he used to be, I think) Tracy McGrady.

It amazes me that he is starting on the Western All-Star team. How? The voting system for the All-Star game with the National Basketball Association allows the fans to vote respectively. But Ray Allen argues. After seeing those players might make the team, might even start, he considers that the NBA should allow the fans to vote fifty-percent and let the media and all of them do the other fifty-percent. I couldn’t agree more, in fact.

But why? Why allow Tracy McGrady to even make the team at all? I mean, do these stats really even mean All-Star worthy:

3.2 PPG, 1 APG, and 0.8 RPG.

What’s the deal with that? I mean, if the NBA allows that, they might as well let Kwame Brown be the starting center for this season’s Eastern Conference All-Stars. Seriously. And also, another reason: T-MAC HAS ONLY PLAYED SIX FREAKING GAMES! Seriously, are you kidding me? That’s just bull. And back to Kwame Brown for a second…this guy is doing better than him: 3.9 PPG and 3.8 RPG in 28 games…

But nevermind that, the NBA really needs to alternate the rules of the All-Star Voting. Right now, after observing what I have for this year’s roster with both the Eastern and Western Conference, it’s not right. Ray Allen, thank you for speaking your mind.

We tremendously need David Stern to listen to you.

I can’t afford to see guys like this making the All-Star team.

You know what really grinds my gears…

Have you ever seen the Family Guy episode where Peter Griffin gets a slot on the news where he gets to rant and rave about whatever pisses him off?

I'm working out a deal with Quahog TV News for my own segment...

Well, I loved the episode so much, that I’m ripping off the idea and using this column to rant and rave about all things Boston Celtics and NBA. And this week in the NBA, my gears have been ground.

You know what really grinds my gears…?!?

  • All this talk about Glen Davis’ immaturity and stupidity because he said “suck my d*&k” to a heckling fan. Really!? If you want to talk about Davis’ immaturity talk about him breaking his thumb in a fight with a buddy, or eating a cheeseburger and fries 30 minutes before tip-off, but swearing at an asshole (probably drunken) fan? Give me a break. He’s a grown man. If he wants to swear at a fan big deal. Do you realize how much swearing and shit-talking Kevin Garnett (and the rest of the Celtics) do all game long to the opposing team?
  • All the panicky Celtics fans after a recent 4-8 skid. Relax everybody… The Celtics window hasn’t closed and they aren’t fatally flawed, they are just getting a little bored. These guys have all been there, done that. They know they can’t prove anything or reach their goal of winning a championship in the regular season, so they lost a little focus. When Garnett returns, everything will return to normal because KG is incapable of playing that way. You can panic if the next 12 twelve games with KG in the lineup leave us with a 4-8 record….
  • LeBron James bailing out of the NBA dunk contest. What a freaking baby. What, is he scared his public persona is going to take a hit if he doesn’t win? He’s going to be there watching anyway, why not lace ‘em and put on a show for all your devoted fans, “King” James. And don’t give me this B.S. he doesn’t want to get hurt. NBA players have dunk contests with each other all the time during practice, and don’t seem too worried about getting injured.
  • The Rookie vs. Sophomore challenge on NBA All-star weekend. What a waste of everybody’s time. Just a horrible display of basketball year in, year out.
  • How every GM waits until the day before the trade deadline to start working out deals. There is always one or two trades that don’t happen because the teams ran out of time and the deadline passed. These GM’s know they can trade players the ENTIRE season before the deadline, right?

Highlight Reel of the Day: An ode to The Pistol

Despite having played his career before I was alive, Pete Maravich has become one of my favorite basketball players. I’ve read multiple biographies about Maravich, watched his Homework Basketball video series and seen all these highlights, and I can’t help but be amazed. Watching these or any other Pistol highlights, it’s clear to me Pete Maravich was born to play the game of basketball. He is the probably the best college basketball player of all-time, averaging over 44 ppg for his career. Sit back and enjoy watching a true disciple. The  video is over 7 minutes, but take the time to watch it, and I promise you will be glad you did. Makes me love basketball even more just watching this:
