What do you think about the site changes?

Not to be Captain Obvious or anything, but we’ve decided to switch our website to a more traditional blog format. We think it will encourage people to read more of our articles and allow us to more quickly post breaking news.

We loved the old look and thought it looked very professional, but we think a traditional blog format will allow us to do some things we haven’t been able to do. Let us know what you think. Obviously, the switch is designed to help us help you, so we’d love to hear some feedback.

And thanks again for reading, and for commenting. We love all you Townies.

Vacation Update: Driving home to MA from South Carolina

The cousins in South Carolina

After a week of lounging on the beach, it’s time to go home to Massachusetts and return to normal life. Fuck. From golf to body surfing to Charleston to Fort Sumter to pub crawling to surfing lessons, the week has sped past us like Rondo initiating a fast break.

Early this morning, we begin the hellish, 15-hour return trip from Folly Beach, South Carolina to Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Because we are leaving at 5:00 a.m., we will be unable to blog and post Celtics news today. We apologize for our absence. We take pride in never missing  a day, in posting the news in a timely fashion. We will return to our normal blogging on Sunday morning.

We will, however, be posting Twitter updates if any important news surfaces tomorrow. So please, follow us on Twitter.

Vacation Update: South Carolina is pretty damn legit

That's me, from last year. I sure used to have a mop, didn't I?

I’m writing this post while looking out at thirty feet of beach, ten-feet high waves and a perfect blue sky. Life doesn’t get much better than this, unless it’s basketball season and I’m somehow watching the Celtics smack the Lakers, drinking a Stella Artois, playing 18 holes, blogging, and chilling at this gorgeous beach, all at the same time. Which I’m pretty sure is impossible, so this is pretty much as good as it gets.

Anyway, in case you didn’t know already, there’s pretty much no point to this post. I basically wrote it so I could tell you Townies that a restaurant down here is named “Shacktacular,” and how I was thinking that “Shaqtacular” would be even worse as a Shaq nickname than it is as a restaurant name. And I wanted to alert everyone one more time that I won’t be able to respond to news immediately. You know, in case you didn’t read any of the 35 previous posts in which I mentioned that.

Alright, I’ll end this pointless post now. After all, it’s time to go swimming and drinking and body surfing.

P.S. – I’m one of the top five body surfers of all time. Easy. But my cousin John, who also happens to be the Michael Jordan of hairy chests, is the best. Ever. He rides waves even after they’ve already evaporated into the sea.

Vacation update: Almost there

My cousin repping the greatest Celtics blog on Earth.

By the time you read this post, I’ll probably be three quarters of the way to the promised land: Folly Beach. I spent eight hours in the car yesterday, mostly napping and drooling my way to Maryland. Just so you know, I’m the drool champion of the world. Every time I wake up, it’s like I’m in a swimming pool of my own saliva. And I’m not talking about a tiny, above-ground pool either. I’m talking a Michael Phelps-worthy, Olympic-sized swimming pool. And it’s all deep end.

Anyway, only nine and a half hours to go, my friends. It’s the stretch run. I’m driving today, so all you drivers between Maryland and South Carolina watch out. I’m something like a mix of Tyreke Evans and Mario Andretti behind the wheel. (Just kidding. I’m actually more like the on-road version of Mother Teresa. I want to be more risky, but I can’t hide my true colors.)

For those of you already bored out of your minds by this needless post, it’s just to tell you that today will be another day of timed posts. If any news comes out, I’ll tweet my reaction for now (follow me, son) and write about it later. May the road be nice to me. Cool Runnings, dawg. Peace be da journey.

Site announcement: Vacation can’t hold me down

That's me, on the right, admiring my cousin's perfect Cornhole form.

I regret to inform you that my brother and I have decided to take our talents to a South Carolina beach for the next week. I would tell you where, but I know a few of you sickos would probably hunt me down and light me on fire because I’m not completely hyped about Avery Bradley. Anyway, don’t worry too much. Even though the beach house we rented doesn’t have internet (two things: 1) blame my mother, and 2) what is this, the 1940s?) we’re still obviously going to be writing posts.

I’ll be making my way to the public library at the crack of dawn every day to write posts. Because I may not be the smartest blogger, or the funniest, and I’m probably not the best writer, but I dare you to find a Celtics blogger on planet earth who’s harder working. Going to the beach can’t stop me and a beach house with no internet connection can’t stop me. Not even my mother’s pleas to stop writing and spend some time with my family can stop me. Bruce Bowen and his never-ending assault of forearm shivers couldn’t even stop me. (But a long drive CAN stop me, which is why we won’t have too many posts tomorrow.)

Just don’t be alarmed if we don’t have breaking news posted right away. I’ll still be reacting to everything that happens in the Celtics world, I just might not have access to a computer when breaking news happens. (Again, what kind of house in this day and age doesn’t have internet connection of any sort? Not even dial-up. I’m kind of worried it’s going to be a run-down shanty.) Anyway, thanks for caring that we won’t be reacting to some news in a timely fashion. You know, if you do care.

Bringing back the Celtics Town mailbag

Consider me Karl Malone. The Mailman, son.

The last time I did a mailbag, most of you Townies (yup, I JUST coined that phrase to describe you readers — creative, huh?) probably didn’t know Celtics Town existed. The popular topics of the times were Stephon Marbury, Leon Powe and Dwayne Schintzius’s mullet. I guess you could say things have changed a little bit in the Celtics world.

But we have a lot more readers now and I’m looking forward to getting a nice little mailbag started. So send me your questions either by email (jayking@celticstown.com) or Twitter (@celticstown). And make the questions as crazy as you want. They can be about what Ainge should target in a Rasheed trade, some free agent the Celtics are thinking about, Kendrick Perkins’ beautiful smile or Paul Pierce’s perfectly-manicured facial hair. No topic is off limits.

Just make sure you get me plenty of questions — I’m trying to go seriously ninja on the first mailbag.
