2013 NBA Draft Rumors: Boston Celtics set to work out Jamaal Franklin, Tim Hardaway Jr, among other shooting guards
The Boston Celtics have primarily focused their predraft workouts on point guards and centers thus far, but they are apparently scheduling workouts with a group of shooting guards who may be available at the 16th pick, according to report on ESPN Boston.
Georgia shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (13th on big board)
San Diego State shooting guard Jamaal Franklin (17th on big board)
Cal shooting guard Allen Crabbe (27th on big board)
HoopsHype reported that Michigan shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. (30th on the big board) will also soon work out for the Celtics.
The Celtics most glaring need remains in the frontcourt, but the shooting guards brought in last offseason–Jason Terry and Courtney Lee–disappointed to varying degrees. With a need to get under the tax line, general manager Danny Ainge will assuredly explore some trade scenarios involving both Terry and Lee.
The Celtics signed Terry for three seasons at the full mid-level last summer (just above $5 million per season), while Lee has three more seasons left at the same pay rate. If Ainge were to trade either one, drafting a shooting guard would make a lot more sense. Read more »
